What is an ATS?
An applicant tracking system is the software employers use to collect and filter applications. It extracts the text from your resume, looks for the keywords in the job description, and ranks or filters candidates before a recruiter reads anything.
How is the ATS score calculated?
Keyword match is 55 points (the job's keywords found in your resume, must-haves counting double), sections and contact details 15, readability 15 (bullets that start with an action verb and stay a sensible length), and parseability 15 (text an ATS can extract, in headings it recognises). Without a job description the three structural parts are scaled to 100.
Is the check really free, and do you keep my resume?
Yes and no: the checker is free with no sign-up, and your file is read in memory and discarded. Nothing is stored. Only the tailoring product keeps files, for 24 hours, and only after you sign in.
Does the checker use AI?
No. The checker runs on our own rules: section detection, action-verb and length checks, text extraction, and a keyword matcher. That makes it instant and deterministic: the same resume always gets the same score. AI is used only in the paid tailoring, which rewrites your resume for the role.
What score should I aim for?
Above 80 against the specific job you're applying for. Under 60 usually means missing keywords or a layout the ATS can't read. The fixes list tells you exactly what to change.
Which file formats work?
PDF and DOCX up to 5 MB. Scanned PDFs (pictures of a resume) have no text to read and will score very low on parseability; export a text PDF from Word or Google Docs instead.
