How Resumeni tailors your resume to a job, in four steps
You bring the resume you already have and the job you want. Resumeni researches the company, rewrites the resume in the posting's words and returns it in your own layout. You check every change before you download. Here is what happens at each step.
- Upload your resume: DOCX or PDF, any design.
- Paste the job description: Any role, any company.
- Resumeni rebuilds it for the role: Research, rewrite, ATS check.
- Review, then download: Edit anything. PDF or DOCX.
Step 1: Upload your resume
Sign in with your email and upload the resume you already use, as a DOCX or a text-based PDF. Any design works: one column or two, any font, any number of pages. Your links to LinkedIn, GitHub or a portfolio are kept and stay clickable.
Scanned PDFs, meaning photos or images of a resume, are not supported yet because there is no text to read. If yours is a scan, export it again from Word or Google Docs.
Step 2: Paste the job description
Paste the full job posting, or upload it as a PDF, DOCX or text file. Include the responsibilities and the requirements; those are the parts the hiring software scores against.
Any field works, including a change of field. A sales resume can be tailored for a finance role, or an engineering resume for a product role. Resumeni reframes your real experience around what the new job cares about.
Step 3: Resumeni rebuilds it for the role
This takes about a minute, and you can watch each stage on the progress screen. Resumeni reads the posting and separates the must-have requirements from the nice-to-haves. It researches the company on the web, so your summary can speak to what the employer does and values. Then it rewrites your headline, summary, experience bullets and skills in the posting's vocabulary.
Where there is a real gap, it fills it honestly: a project you could build for this role, a free certification with a link we have checked, or a skill listed under Learning. All of these are marked in progress, not claimed as done.
Finally it scores the resume against the job, before and after, so you can see what moved.
Step 4: Review, then download
Every change is shown on your resume. Lines the AI wrote about work you probably did, but did not write down, are marked as AI suggestions. Confirm each one, edit it, or remove it. You can click any line to change it, including company names, dates and headings, and undo any edit.
When everything is checked, download the resume as PDF and DOCX. The new text sits in your own file, so the fonts, layout and page count are the ones you started with.
How the ATS score is worked out
The same score is used in the free ATS resume checker and inside every tailored resume, out of 100. It is our own score, built to reflect how applicant tracking systems rank resumes. It is a guide for improving the resume, not a guarantee from any employer's system.
| Part | Points | What it checks |
|---|---|---|
| Keyword match | 55 | The posting's keywords found in your resume. Must-have keywords count double. |
| Sections and contact details | 15 | Contact details, experience, skills and education are all present. |
| Readability | 15 | Bullets that open with an action verb and stay a sensible length. |
| Parseability | 15 | The text extracts cleanly from your file, in sections the software recognises. |
See the output before you start
The resume examples page shows one full resume, as uploaded and as tailored for two different job postings, with every change marked. It is the quickest way to see what you will get back, and how the result changes when the job description changes.
What it costs
The first check-up is free. A full tailored resume costs $4.99, and packs of 5 or 15 bring the price per resume down. It is a one-time payment with no subscription. See pricing for the details.
Frequently asked questions
How long does it take?
The rewrite takes about a minute. Reviewing the changes usually takes five minutes more.
Do I need an account?
You sign in with your email and a one-time code. There is no password to remember.
What do I get for free?
Your first check-up: the ATS score for the job, the keywords you are missing and three lines rewritten as a sample. You only pay to have the whole resume rewritten and downloaded.
Will the AI make things up?
Anything the AI adds beyond what you wrote is marked as an AI suggestion, and you must confirm, edit or remove it before downloading. New projects and certifications are marked in progress.
Can I tailor the same resume for a different job?
Yes. Start a new tailored resume with the same file and a different job description. Each job gets its own version, rewritten for that posting. You can see an example in the resume examples.
What happens to my files?
Uploaded files are deleted automatically 24 hours after upload, so download what you need before then.
